Flu could strike up to one-third of U.S. population

There are now nearly 400,000 confirmed cases of swine flu worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. As many as 100 million Americans may become infected with the flu this season, according to Dr. Martin Blaser, the chair of the department of medicine at the NYU School of Medicine.

Countries tighten borders as swine flu epidemic spreads

On Monday, in reponse to a growing swine flu epidemic, the World Health Organization raised the pandemic alert level from three to four. Beyond Mexico, the United States and five other countries were dealing with confirmed cases of the flu. Martin Blaser of the New York University School of Medicine discusses the scope of the outbreak and how world governments are responding.
