Court opens door to new charges against Bashir

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has traveled freely for months despite the existence of an international warrant for his arrest from the International Criminal Court.

The existing warrant is for war crimes, but the Chief Prosecutor of the ICC, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, is trying to prosecute the president for genocide as well. Today judges at the Court ruled that the pre-trial chamber should examine the evidence for genocide again.

Worldfocus partner Deutsche Welle reports on the ICC’s efforts to bring al-Bashir to justice.

It’s good that these new charges have been filed. It’s long overdue, but at least it demonstrates that the ICC is serious and isn’t giving up on justice despite the apparent indifference of the surrounding African nations. The people of Darfur have suffered horribly, and deserve justice. Maybe this brings it one step closer.

Why aren’t all national leaders who’s nations have committed war crimes indicted especially Bush, Blair and the entire Israeli leadership who have carried out atrocities for decades. But oh no. Not them. They’re part of our cushy cligue. We do no wrong. Let’s just go after those third world thugs. That makes good press. The ICC is just another Nurnberg farce!
