Obama and the World: Iran

As part one of a multi-part series we are launching tonight that we call “Obama and the World,” we take a detailed look at American foreign relations.

Tonight, our focus is on Iran — and the stalemate over its nuclear program. It’s an issue most analysts believe will be one of the top foreign policy stories in 2010.

Martin Savidge is joined by Ervand Abrahamian, a distinguished professor of history at the City University of New York, and Arang Keshavarzian, a professor of Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies at New York University.

Just follow the money? Iran has good relations to date with Russia, and China. Who would benefit most from Iran’s (dysfuctional government)demise? Perhaps the Saudi’s,or even all of the middle-east,…or better yet, countless foreign governments with lucritive oil contracts…now why,or how could that be? Ironically,…Iran, and Russia control approx.20% of the world’s oil supply today, but the “Blue Gold” natural gas reserves (Qutar ,and it’s a has approx. 10% of the world’s total)are at most breathtaking with the world’s lion share coming in at 50% plus(combined)! There is one country that by itself has approx. 30% plus (a recently humongous discovery) natural gas reserves, that being in the “Devil’s Triangle” (of all places),…Turkmenistan that deals with Russia’s Gazprom’s oil conglomerate. Lastly,…China has already signed an agreement worth $100 Billion with the Iranian’s for natural gas which some have coined ,”Deal of the Century”,with Russia on the sidelines renegotiating frantically with their old satellite nation Turkmenistan that still is very pro-Russian? So just follow the money,…the $Trillions to be made for the world’s newly adopted energy supply for the next century plus!

I wish there had been a balancing voice – both guests soft soaped Iran; both advocated against US deadlines for Iran.
