U.S. envoy George Mitchell flew from Egypt to Israel to meet with top Israeli leaders and officials in efforts to achieve peace in the region.
While Mitchell emphasized the necessity of a cease-fire, both Israel and Hamas attacked one other with rockets and bombs. Mitchell plans to meet with Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas but does not plan to have direct contact with members of Hamas.
For more on George Mitchell’s mission, Worldfocus speaks with Jon Alterman, director of the Middle East Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.

I am from vancouver, canada and i wanted to say that i can’t see what good George Mitchell is doing in Palestine. He should be making it clear that israel is in the wrong and condemning israel. There is etnic cleansing going on in East Jerusalem and supplies are not been allowed into Gaza.He should be doing something about that.At the present time the U.S.gov.is part of the problem in Palestine. The U.S.gov.needs to be for the Palestinian people and against the israeli gov.
