Russia plans to deploy missiles near Poland

Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said Russia might deploy short-range missiles near Poland in response to a proposed American missile defense shield in eastern Europe. Prior to the announcement, he sent President-elect Barack Obama a telegram offering congratulations and expressing hope for a “constructive dialogue.”

Timothy Frye, a professor of political science at Columbia University, speaks with Martin Savidge about the severity of the plan, the effect of the Russia-Georgia conflict and ways in which dropping oil prices will affect Russia’s assertive stance.
