Afghan police aided attack on U.S. soldiers

As it did in Iraq, the U.S. faces challenges in winning the loyalty of the local police forces in Afghanistan. According to The New York Times, Afghan police officials aided the Taliban in carrying out attacks on U.S. soldiers in July. The attacks killed nine Americans and injured 27.

Eric Schmitt of The New York Times speaks with Martin Savidge about the police force in Afghanistan, the future of American involvement in the country and Afghan President Karzai’s response to the situation.
